Electrolux washer EFLW317TIW - How to best extend drain hose?

I bought a stackable washer and dryer that will be delivered in a few weeks. I live in a rental apartment, so I will need to get a bit creative with drainage, as I can't mess with the plumbing or walls too much and the landlord will never do it. The drain hose that comes with the washer won't be long enough, so I will have to extend it. Apparently the last tenant had the washer draining into the bathtub, which is roughly 10 ft from where the washer will be installed (I can't get in touch with him to find out how he did it). If I do this, the hose would have to go around a bit of a corner through the bathroom door- please see this pic (220V dryer plug dryer circled to clarify install location).

The other option would be to route the drain hose into the kitchen sink, about 10 ft straight ahead of where the washer will be, but that seems a little more cumbersome in terms of being in my way (I'll have to tuck hoses away between uses either way, I'm ok with that).

The store I ordered the washer from said they advised replacing the entire drain hose instead of extending it on account of the water pressure, however, I've read that if the extension hose is sloping sideways or downwards it's feasible. And I'd rather not go poking around back there to replace the original, as I'm not experienced at all. Furthermore, when it's all delivered, they will be bolting the units with a stacking kit, in which case I'm not sure how I would even have the room to get back there and remove the panel once they're done. I'm a woman living alone so its a bit tricky maybe. The depth of the washer/dryer (32") mean the units will take up all the space from the wall where you see the plug, to nearly flush with the left corner of the bathroom door, without much leeway. So I'd prefer to use an extension, but not if it's going to fry the drain pump or cause floods. I don't have extra money to cover disasters!

A couple questions:

  1. Looking at the picture of where the washer/dryer will be installed, do you think I can rig an extension instead of replacing the original drain hose with a longer one, and will that work if it has to go around a bit of a corner to get to the bathtub? Or should I route it straight ahead to the kitchen sink? The bathroom sink is tiny so I don't imagine that's an option.

  2. Either way, how would you suggest I set it up in terms of making sure the angles of the drain hose are conducive to proper draining? Like it has to go up before it goes down, right? It's suggested to have the drain hose mouth at least 30" off the floor so should I secure it to the shower tiles somehow?

Sorry for the long post. Helpful advice greatly appreciated!

If your kitchen sink isn't a large single sink but instead a standard two sided kitchen sink - FORGET ABOUT DRAINING INTO THE KITCHEN SINK!!!!!    You will most likely flood your kitchen every time you wash, maybe even if it is the larger size single sink.

I had an small apartment size washer/dryer combo hooked up to my kitchen sink and draining into it and it would fill right to the top of the sink and flow just fast enough to drain without overflowing - if it was a full size with more water it would have most likely overflowed.

Almost looks like the wall thru to the bathroom in your picture has been patched - maybe the last tenant put a hole thru the wall to run the drain hose into the bathtub and patched it up when they left.
