Rotated connector on replacement LG compressor

Hi

I am in the UK but I have found a previous thread on this forum that suggests that there may be members in the US that could help me.

I have an LG fridge/freezer model GM5148AERV that needs a compressor replacement. Compressor model number is FC124NAME and I have a replacement with part number TCA35315203.

My refrigeration engineer came to fit it this morning but soon found that the power connector on the new compressor is rotated compared to the old one. The new one came with a different plastic connector cover but no new plug or wiring harness. I believe that the old plug can simply be rotated 60 degrees from the original orientation and does not need replacing. He is concerned that there may have been a wiring change and that a new plug and wiring is required to suit the new compressor.

I tried contacting LG customer service in Uk and the person I talked to confirmed that there had been a change in the connector orientation  but was unable to access the relevant service bulletin (2REF20130248) and could not confirm for sure that the original wiring and plug could still be used.

A previous helpful reply to a similar post by Vance R offered to supply photos and other information about this change. I am hoping that there is someone out there who can supply me with some kind of documentary evidence of this change that I can pass on to my engineer to enable him to complete the repair.

Thanks

Chris

The old connector will work if rotated to the orientation where it connects to the two of three compressor terminals that have continuity.

These liner compressors have three terminals in a triangle pattern just like a normal compressor but only one set of two will have continuity - the third is not connected to anything.

Thanks for that info. I did meter the pins and come to the same conclusion but just wanted to hear it from someone who has seen this before.

2 pins will not have continuity? My linear comp has same ohms on all 3 sets of pins? So that’s an issue? It’s a hegy 6h?

I can only speak for the LG compressor specifically mentioned above but out of the three possible pairs of pins to meter two are open circuit and the other pair is 4-6 Ohms. Same for old and new compressor with new style rotated connector. I did eventually manage to get hold of a bulletin from LG about newer compressors (actually concerning firmware updates required for some replacement models from new supplier) which mentioned and showed pictures of new compressor orientation.

I also dismantled the old compressor and so can confirm that only two pins are connected internally.

New style linear the pin got rotated. Yes only 2 pin have resistance reading. Yes the new compressor comes with a new cover.

Most of this thread you are trying to hijack is talking about Linear compressors used in LG refrigerators. HEGY 6H sounds like potentially an Embraco built vcc compressor which should have equal resistance on all three windings.
