I've got an Amana ABD2533DEQ fridge that is leaking water from the bottom. I've checked the water lines from the wall and to the ice maker, filter, and water dispenser. None of them seem to be leaking. The drip tray is quite expansive on this model and the only part that seems to have any moisture at all in it is right where the Metal evaporator sits. The rest of the tray is dusty and doesn't look like its ever had water in it. I think that the drip tray might have a crack or hole, but it seems impossible to get out . I'd have to be able to remove the fan housing and I can unattach it from the frame, but can't get it out from the back making the drip tray inaccessible.

We put water in the drip tray when the fridge was turned off and the water ran onto the floor so this supports the theory of it being cracked or something. I just don't see how I can take it out to look at it. Also, I can't find the drip pan replacement anywhere online, so if someone has an idea of where to purchase I'd appreciate it.

PS...this drip tray seems like the most pain in the but drip tray you can put in a fridge :) ha

If the drain pan is dry your defrost drain is probably plugged or iced up.

I can put water down the drain pipe in the back of the freezer and and it comes out the drain pipe immediately, so I dont think the drain pipe is clogged.

Ok, drain is clear. next with water in the drain pan does the water leak onto the floor?

Posted

It seems to be holding the water I have put down the drain pipe.

The drain is clear and the drain pan is holding water. The drip tray you are talking about is under the evaporator. So kind the same test as the drain pour water on the drip tray to see if leaks.

It also seems as though the water is sitting towards the front of the fridge. not directly under the back where the drip tray is.

This depending how level the tray is sitting, could be tilted to the front.

The tray seems to be level.  the 16oz cup of water doesnt appear to be leaking out of the tray.

Another thing of note...our freezer was not defrosting earlier this year. Basically every 60 days it was freezing up and we'd have to manually defrost it. We had a new control board put in and it's been since end of February with no issues. Except now the puddle of water. Could it be defrosting too well and overflowing the tray during the defrost cycle?

Not likey, but always possible .

Wanted to put an update here. I found the source of the leak with a buddy's help. It was the drip tray and had a hole in it behind the compressor where we couldn't see it.  We had to tip the fridge side to side and undo the base plate to slide it out.

I was unable to find a replacement part, so we taped the bottom and then put a 2 part epoxy in the tray spread over the area to recreate the plastic. Hopefully it holds.

Thank you for your help!

If that doesn't work, remove the tray and coat the whole inside with flex-seal. Great find !!
