Hi,

The house I recently moved into has an LG LFX31925ST/00 refrigerator manufactured in June 2011. The house was built in 2006. My wife noticed blue and white flakes in her ice water where both the ice and water were dispensed from the refrigerator.

Here's what I've found so far including some images:
When looking into the ice cube tray, I can see blue and white buildup ice cube tray
I can also see the same buildup on the water line that fills the ice cube trays ice cube water line
I do not see any buildup or flakes when looking at the in-door reservoir in-door reservoir
I also do not see any evidence of blue stains in any toilet tanks, sinks, or other household appliances.
We have replaced the refrigerator water filter, but I'm not sure how often the previous owners did.

The blue buildup is what got our attention as I have not seen this before and a google search returns copper corrosion info. I am curious if anyone has any experience with this. I am trying to determine if this is just from hard water and I simply need to clean the ice cube tray and fill line as part of regular maintenance. Or, do I need to replace some of the refrigerator components, e.g. the water line from the in-door reservoir valve going to the ice maker? Or, do I have a potential plumbing/water quality issue in the house that needs to be addressed?

Thanks for any insight you may have.

Matt

Believe it is slighty acidic water causing copper corrosion - the blue. No simple answer because it depends on how acidic and how old the pipes. Usually the blue shows up faucet nozzles with white crusty buildup. If the sinks and toilet have no stains it maybe a minor issue. You'll have to check locally with a plumber or two to get a better answer.  The line in the refrigerator are plastic so they won't have much build up, anything with metal maybe more of an issue. Clean what you can and flush the line by running a gallon or two.  There are more extreme ways to flush, but need a whole house filter or some way to add a canister to the water line.
