Kenmore Whirlpool Refrigerator Not Making Ice

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a Kenmore ColdSpot 106.5 Refrigerator and recently the automatic ice maker stopped working. I've tried several things listed below. Looking for some advice on what to try next.

1. This happened once before so the first thing I did was replace the motor assembly. I did not replace the entire ice maker, just the motor that fits on the end. When this didn't work I noticed no water was getting to the ice tray and the gear on the outside still does not turn, not even slowly. I also tried jumping it with a wire. I saw this trick on youtube but it did not work.

2. Validated it was on, both the switch on the inner freezer side and the metal bar that turns on and off the motor. I even tried both on and off positions just for the hell of it.

3. So I thought maybe when it broke the line froze. I completely thawed the freezer over night. No luck.

4. So I began thinking maybe it was the water valve in the back underneath. The door water still worked but maybe the ice water part was broken. Replaced this with a new one. No luck. I also removed the water purifier since it was pretty old but suspect if that was the problem it would be a problem with the door water too. I was guessing it could be a filter or something but still same thought, if that was clogged the door water wouldn't work. Maybe there's a separate filter for the freezer water. Thinking about this now so right after I post I'll go check youtube where this is and then see.

5. I then checked with a voltmeter that power was getting to the motor

6. I also verified the ice bin level was working, which I think what I saw means it is. When the opening is blocked the light blinks red 2 times then pauses and repeats. When it is not blocked and the door is open it stay on solid red. When the door closes it goes out.

So whats left? I was thinking whatever electronics tell the freezer to drop more water in the tray may be faulty but I have no idea what that part is called or where it is to try to replace it. Does that sound legitimate? What other ideas?

Thanks in advance
