Hi,

I hope I can find some answers here.

I have a Maytag RTD19A unit, more than ten years old. The freezer is working fine; however, the refrigerator part keeps getting warmer and warmer. I think the fan is not working properly, as I can't feel any air blowing into the freezer compartment. However, I can overhear a feeble buzzing, like the vibration of a seized or otherwise non-turning electric motor. Also, there is visible frost/ice buildup in both the freezer and fridge sections. I can't find any panel or screws that I can remove to access the condenser on the back. Is it better to fix or replace this 12-year-old Maytag?

I thought of fixing this because a proper fix would likely give another five years. Do you think if this is something that I can fix myself? I contacted a refrigerator repair service nearby, and have requested a quote, waiting to hear back from them. Is there anyone here who has used a Maytag for more than ten years? Could you please share your experiences? Should I spend on the service of this ten-year-old fridge? And btw, how much would a service call cost to diagnose the problem?

Thanks for the help!

I believe this refrigerator is way older than you think, the newest it could be is a 1996 model  the evaporator is under the floor of the freezer . Very common for drain to stop up and block the fan with ice. Very good refrigerator, even as old as it is , if it doesn’t have a system problem it can still last longer than today’s new junk refrigerators  you will need a service man to do fix it , in my opinion
