Viking VDSC4856GSS Double Oven Control Function Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently turned on my oven function knob for the larger oven and I heard a loud pop and the circuit breaker was tripped. I can not turn this on know without it blowing. Below is the image of the preheat control board. It looks like some of the capacitors might have blown, not sure. The smaller oven works fine and so does the rest of the stove. Am I right in thinking this board needs to be replaced. Or possibly is there another issue that might cause this tripping.

Thank you, JR

I think you nailed it, visible physical damage is a clear indication of trouble with a control board. Check every other component before replacing it to insure something downstream did not cause the board to fail. I’d especially look for short circuits to ground.

Hello,

Thank you very much. I did not see anything else that I thought looked damaged. I am assuming that this board is actually two control circuits, since the smaller oven is still working. I do not think I have missed anything, but would you have a suggestion of something else that would set this off.

Thank you

Thanks again, enjoy the beer....😀

Hello,

Took your suggestion. I back tracked further and see this burnt wire attached to the large oven function knob. Do you usually see these control knob units go bad, or just need to make a new connection, (cut out the fried wire) and new spade connection. Is it typical for these spade connections to go bad and short out.

Thank you, JR

Hello,

So I traced the burnt wire to the circuit board on the back of the unit. I do not see any signs of damage to that board. The only damage I can see is this wire on the oven function knob. So is the likely hood that this knob is the issue. So error occurs when I turn the oven function knob to desired setting, but as soon as I turn on the temp know it blows. I also checked the relay at the bottom of the stove, and it looks fine to me, but does this have any part of the knob issue.

Thank you, JR
