Loud Clank from Compressor CTX21BAXFRWH Hotpoint Refrig

Okay, one more item.

This refrigerator has performed wonderfully for years. Lately, it has developed a rather loud clunk, clank from the compressor when the compressor shuts down its cycle.

I checked the outside compressor mounts and they seem intact.  My guess is that the compressor unit inside the sealed enclosure has broken loose and there is no fix other than a new compressor unit which really means replacing the appliance (not worth fixing).

Any helpful advice is appreciated.

@leafman60 you are totally correct in your assessment of this situation.  One of the spring mounts that the actual compressor unit sits on inside the sealed can has broken letting the motor move too much on shutdown and hit the sides of the encasement can.

If you can put up with the noise it could work this way for many more years or something inside could break and it may stop cooling but they can run for years that way.

Had a unit once before that would make a noise either at startup or shutdown

its terminal and nothing you can do

Yeah

I've heard that it can run for years.  Dunno if I want to put up with the racket, though.  This refrig is about 24 years old and has provided totally trouble-free service.  It's been much better than the highfalutin prestige brands that I have.
