Thermador PRL486JDG/10 Power Issues

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm excited to have found this forum as I make a hobby out of fixing appliances for my family and friends.

I have recently purchased a PRL486JDG/10 that is not getting power to most of the burners nor the ovens. The two oven control boards on the front will also not work. The problem seems to be similar to these in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEBRwAU-7Q8 (I'm aware it is a different model number, but it is extremely close to mine.)

When plugged in the range fans spin slowly, the igniters on the burners without the XHI or XLO will function, and the light panel will function. Those are the only items that show signs of power.

I have purchased a new "Control Logic Board," but the problem is still there. I've verified it is getting 120V as this is a Propane system, and does not use 240V. I'm running out of ideas, unless I have 2 bad control boards???

The even larger issue i'm running into is that it did not come with the wiring schematics. I've contacted Thermador and several service centers and they will not provide a copy.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction to trouble shoot and or find the wiring schematics?

I greatly appreciate the assistance.

What were your test points when verifying 120v?  Did you read that while referencing from ground?  (Hopefully NOT)

I tested the 120V at the Relay Control Board. Tested from L1 to Neutral.

I did more extensive testing last night. It seems, if I unplug the Main Display Control board, (I did verify it was getting the 12V DC and 5V DC) that the range operates differently when plugged in. The fans spin up and then shut down in sequence from right to left. This does not happen when the Main Display Control board was plugged in, the fans slowly rotate at a slow rate of speed.

After unplugging the Main Display Control board, I would get 120V at the simmer control boards on each end, but the ignitors would not fire. After unplugging, I also verified the oven light transformer was receiving 120V.

I've ordered new Control Board displays as nether will work or show any signs of life even with them receiving voltage.
