Still looking for help - GE Range J BP35D not getting hot

Recommended Posts

I have a GE range, the oven of which is not getting hot.

I measured the temperature over time. Set the oven to 350F, then start. After 10 minutes, the display read "350", indicating that it reached the desired temperature. However, the actual temp was 191F. After 60 minutes, the temp had steadily climbed to 298F, but no where near the 350F set point.

I will appreciate any help I receive on this.

Thanks!

First I would verify there is no aluminum foil or other type catch tray inside the oven.

if so, I’d remove them and retest.

if not, I’d start by testing the oven sensor.

How do I test the oven sensor?

Thanks!

You can measure the resistance, usually at room temp it is 1080 ohms.

Are you referring to the thermocouple? And if so, do I access that from behind the unit, with the access panel removed?

Thanks!

I figured it out.

One of the wires to the heating element had almost completely broken free from spade connector.

Cutting off the old connector, and replacing it with a new one solved the problem.

Thanks for the inputs.
