Whirlpool Fridge not cool but freezer works

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a Whirlpool french door refrigerator (Model WRF989SDAE) w/ bottom freezer.  The last week the fridge seemed to get slowly warmer, finally sitting around 60 degrees. The freezer still has everything frozen.  We sometimes get ice in the top left corner of the fridge (and some items will freeze when up against the back wall).  Here is what I've done, any suggestions before I have to call a repairman?

1. Cleaned the coils - they were super dirty. Cleaned them real well and now the fridge does a little better (50-55 degrees) but not good enough.  We gave it over 24 hours to cooldown.

2. Compressor fan in the back panel by the back coils spins just fine and wasn't too dirty, I clenaed it as best I could.

3. Removed the freezer door and took off the evaporator wall thing.  The evaporator coils were not frozen over.

4. I ran through the cooling disagnostics according to the instruction manual.  I don't really know what I'm looking for, but everything that would give a status of 01 - Pass, 02 - Open, or 03 - Fail had the 01 status.  Through these diagnostics, I can make the fan above the freezer coils spin.  I am not sure yet if this fan spins when in normal operation with the freezer reasssembled.  Should it be spinning at all times?

5. Air does come from the vent at the top front left of the fridge.  But its not super cool and my thermometer reads  about the same temp as the fridge (~55 degrees).  Is this the damper?
