Kitchen Aid Trash Compactor stopped- KTTS505ESS

Hello- my trash compactor stopped half way thru a cycle and I can not get it to do anything. I am able to open the drawer enough to confirm that the solid pack is not turned on. I have tried turning off the breaker as well but no luck. Another issue is that the anchor straps are screwed into my cabinet and I can not open the drawer enough to unscrew the screws. HELP....anyone have any ideas??

You will have to uninstall it to diagnose it. The only thing I can think of is to use a reciprocating saw or a jig saw to cut the screws. You will probably damage the cabinet. Don’t screw the thing back in, they weigh enough they really don’t need it. If you hear it running but not actually moving the ram I would start with the gears on the bottom, they like to break.Part number: 882699

if no noise at all start testing for voltage from the outlet thru the start switch, limit switches and the motor. Motor is the next most common thing I replace.

Thank you!  I was able to get the screws out finally with a flexiable screw driver.  Then I was able to rotate the gear to raise the ram back up and remove drawer.  I have tested the foot petal switch, drawer switch, and directional switch and they all passed continuity.  So I was going to test the motor next.  What is the easiest way to do that?  If it is certain wires is there anyway for you to tell me which ones?  Tried to find a wiring diagram on internet with no luck.  THANK YOU!

If the motor does nothing I would want to check the motor protector before live testing for voltage.

Great...ok so the reading between Pin 7 & 8 was 15...and between 6 & 3 was 12....so I am assuming that means bad motor?

So I put most of it back together to try the centrifugal switch but that didn't move the motor.  Now that most is back together I checked the Ohms again and now I get 7 and a tone on Pins 7&8 and 4 and a tone on 3 & 6.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks!

Hey John- Any chance you have any thoughts on what I should do?  Thank you!!!

Anybody have any idea of next steps?  It does not appear that the motor windings are open.  Does that mean that the motor is bad?  TIA
