Kenmore 417.98042701 heat cycle cutting out

Recommended Posts

My Kenmore gas dryer goes through one heat cycle normally, but once it warm it starts cutting out.  I can hear a relay in the main board doing this crazy rhythmic clicking, and in turn the gas valve solenoid is clicking loudly.  It looks like the board is calling for het, then not, then yes, then no, etc.  The HSI starts to glow then stops, again and again.  Could this be the thermal cut-out failing?  I tried running the dryer with no vent connected and it did the same thing.

Gas valve coils are the most likely the problem.  They are replaceable separtely from the valve.

I bypassed the high limit thermostat and the thermal limiter during one of its episodes and it didn't stop it.  I'm ordering the solenoid kit, but is there a test I can do to confirm?  It's only $15 so changing it isn't a big deal.

They usually fail when hot. You can try ohming them out, but most of us just swap them out to test.
