GE WPXH214A0WW (Frigidaire Front Loader post 1998 model)

Machine Number: WPXH214A0WW

I have a unit that is non functioning. Since the unit would not enter "high speed" spin, I assumed it was the door switch. I installed a new switch, while the unit did not function correctly, it did perform differently.

Moving on, I replaced the timer mechanism since I had one. Again, did not function properly, it did act differently.

The symptoms (with both new parts installed)

The system will begin a cycle by filling the drum and tumbling.

It does not seem as if the timer mechanism does NOT advance, therefore it never finishes a cycle.

In the service manual I have on this machine, there are no "proving parts as good" only coil resistances.

I have worked on several of these and haven't had a problem with them. I must have a sensor of contact or other not good, so the cycle dies.

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure which manual you are using. Looked at minimanual 31-1548, when the pressure switch in full position or contacts 3 and  3a in timer close the timer motor should be running.  May want to check for voltage at timer motor.

Yes, I checked the voltage at the timer motor. Strange that the voltage is approximately 24VAC.

In 31-1548 diagram looks like timer motor should get 120 vac.

There are certain spots during each cycle where the speed control takes over the control of the timer motor - if the speed control board hangs up in the middle of it's program that was sent to it then it doesn't finish the routine and send the advance single to the timer motor that then lets the timer contacts send voltage to the timer motor until the next program signal is sent to the speed control board.

If you look at your wiring diagram and look at the timer chart, Cam 6 - T(top contact) is the timer contact that close for the timer motor to run directly thru control of the timer.   Every time the black dashed line across the chart disappears the timer motor advance is controlled by the signal from the speed control board when it finishes it's current program.

There is a Frigidaire bulletin regarding this problem - it is mentioned in this discussion for pretty much the same problem as yours.

The Kenmore/Frigidaire built washer in the above discussion is exactly what yours is - parts under the Frigidaire part# are cheaper then if you find the same part with a GE label.

Your speed control board WH12X10154 is the same as 134149220

Yes I know the timer is supposed to run on 120VAC, which leads me to believe that the motor control board is throwing erroneous voltages to the timer??

And yes I am aware of how the timing circuits function on this model, it is a hybrid unit the timer controls the signal by having 6T providing a straight path from L1 and N.

And other sequences the motor control unit supplies the NEUTRAL voltage to the timer motor, in which I would presume is supposed to be 120VAC, but it isn't.

Since I don't think the timer contacts are dropping the voltage to 24VAC, then the motor control board must be malfunctioning.

Don't  know if my presumptions are correct, but it would appear at this time, the motor control board is defective??

Thank you all for your insights, they are appreciated.
