GE dryer GTDP490ED1WS getting hot and stopping

GE dryer GTDP490ED1WS Is getting hot to the touch and shutting off before the end of the set cycle on medium heat setting on Timed Dry or Permanent Press settings.  Dryer vent is clean and free of excess lint.

Using dryer sheets?  Might be waxed up lint filter,  also possibility of a grounded heater,

make sure your dryer vent is not clogged and clean the lint filter

if the dryer is electric you can test it by unplugging the air vent from the dryer and drying a proper load.
