not really a repair problem, but i thought someone may know. my brother left the broiler on with a gas stove and left the house. would he have burned the house down?

It’s not recommended. Common sense.

an oven in self clean mode uses both burners for extended periods of time..so no..fire is unlikely for a reasonable amount of time..

They do in fact use both burners/elements in self-clean but I don't think there are any, (gas or electric), where both are on at the same time during self-clean.

Nothing really besides some waste of gas and electric,  however leaving unsupervised oven on is never a good thing,

If it's a US model with a U/L approval, nothing would have happened except that the house would be hot and the gas bill would be higher.

The Underwriter's Laboratories certification means (among other things) that it will operate safely and die quietly if it fails, without burning down the house.

It should cycle the broiler on and off and maintain whatever the maximum bake temperature is, so even with the door closed, it wouldn't get over roughly 530°F.

ok, thx 4 the responses. so I guess no, would've been smoky for my cat, tho. i would've been out of the house for 14 hours and 1 guy said the broiler disables the thermostat and the broil setting is past 550 on my old magic chef so my thought was the stove metal would heat extremely and set my overhanging cabinets on fire.
