MY GE Fridge is too cold.  Freezing fresh food.  Temperature  not responding (temperature control board appears good. Doesn't matter where temp is set..it freezes everything)   I replaced all the thermistors...still have problem.

This  model refrigerator DOES NOT have a motorized air damper.  Just a hole in the wall with a plastic unit that contains a themistor ,  a mylar flap and a light fixture .  (strange, must be a cheap model)

All the fans are working.   I replaced the temperature control gizmo on the evaporator.    Did notice that the ice cubes in the freezer section are melting and then re-freezing into a big clump of solid ice,  indicating a problem holding a steady temp.  Could this effect the fresh food section?   Hate to spend $200 on a new main control board,  but don't know where to look next?   HAS to be the control board, right?

Thank for help.

If you changed the thermistors and still freezing it really only leavea you with the board assuming the wires are good,  what temperatures are you getting in the fridge?  Did you try adjusting the damper door?

Thanks for reply Isaac.   Yes, replaced all themistors, wiring checks good.   I'm getting about 32-38 degrees in the fresh food section.  (doesn't matter where the temp control is set).   This model doesn't have a motorized air damper.  (cheap model)   It just has a piece of mylar that hangs in the damper opening.

I thought it might be the Temp Control unit on the evaporator line, but that would cause a "warm" fresh food section with defrost problems?    So far, the defrost appears to be working fine.

I also checked air flow...appears to be working on the fresh food side and freezer side.

So I guess the only thing left is to pull the main control board and check the capacitors for any signs of bulges or any signs of burned resistors.   I was just wondering if there was anything else I missed.... ?

thanks again..cheers

Is there any ice build up around the air return?  I have seen in some unit partaly iced up return causing unit to overwork

No, no ice build up visible around the air return.  Thanks for the tip.   I'm going to open the evaporator section in the back of the freezer and take a look and see if there is any ice build up.    I can also check the Temp control sensor on the evaporator.  It was replaced about 2 years ago.  Not sure how long those sensors last.

I went ahead and ordered a new main control board.  I'm a HAM radio guy, so I know how fickle those control boards can be.  If one capacitor or resistor is bad,  settings will drift around.  The temp settings in the refrigerator are not responding  ( either up or down)   The temp control board on the door is able to turn  the fridge on and off, so I assume communication is good along the cables.  The Main board is not responding.  (GE has managed to turn  refrigerators into a big transistor radio..lol. )   I'm sure with 5-G coming, it's only going to get worse.

Thanks for help Issac.

If dispenser is not working well it might be a first sign of a bad board but it can be unrelated,  also if you pulling off evap cover verify ice pattern,  if you having a start of a sealed system issue it might cause the unit to run all the time and freeze the stuff in the fridge,  just one more thing to check.

Any resolution on this problem? I have come across my 2nd of this design recently with temp issues.  I have NO idea of how the temps can be regulated and balanced with this design. Thanks
