Frigidaire Washer (Model #: LTF2940FS1) Won't Run Through Its Cycles

I have a side-loading Frigidaire washer (Model #: LTF2940FS1) and when I begin the wash cycle (any cycle) it will fill a splash of water and just sit there (i.e., no agitating / won't continue to add water, but the timer continues to run).  I also tried it on the drain / spin cycle and had a similar outcome (i.e., it drained some water once and just sat there with the timer eventually counting down - no spin / no additional draining).  Any thoughts on what may be the issue?

Yes, sorry - front loader.  Oddly enough the washer sit there, not doing anything and counts down to 1 min, but never goes to zero.

Thanks for the feedback / information.  Two follow-up questions: 1) Is there anyway to test whether this is the issue before buying the a new motor control board & 2) would you do this repair knowing it was a 12 year old washer (i.e., is this likely the first of many things that are likely to begin going wrong)?  I'm just trying to weigh the $265 replacement part vs a new washer at $710.  Would welcome your thoughts - thanks.
