Replacing Frigidaire Dishwasher Door Gasket (Cdn. Model BF44P1)

Hi there,

I have a very old Canadian, Frigidaire dishwasher which had served me well until the door gasket (it actually mounts on the door, not the tub) failed at the bottom (looks like an approx.  1 1/2" piece broke off one end). When I tried to find a replacement online p/n 3021471020), I was ultimately led to a substitute p/n 5308016252 so that led me to a concern about this gasket being long enough for the job and I had a devil of a time finding that critical information for the substitute. One vendor even refused to tell me how long their gasket was, apparently since they had had a few bad experiences with parts not fitting and them having to be returned (sometimes apparently at the seller's cost)! Anyway, I finally got a straight answer from a vendor and, being satisfied that their gasket would be at least long enough, I ordered it! I started installing it today and found that it is approx. 2" too long! So, my question to you fine folks is, do I just cut it square to butt up as tight as I can against the other end of the new gasket or do I somehow overlap the two end pieces by a couple of inches?! Thanx in advance for your kind and prompt responses!

If the original butted up trimming would be needed. The gaskets do shrink alittle with age so cutting it slighty lone would a good idea. Just to double check the gap would be at the bottom?

Yes, the gap is at the bottom, the gasket goes all the way around the door! Strange thing is, although I stated that it appears a 1 1/2" piece broke off at the bottom (end of the gasket), I couldn't find that piece in the dishwasher and, now that I have removed the old gasket, it appears to have been cut (not broken) at an angle on the end, leaving the approx. 1 1/2" gap, which makes absolutely no sense!! Thanx in advance for your comments.
