LG LFX25971SW Refrigerator no water to icemaker or door water dispenser

Hello,

I have the model LG refrigerator above with the following symptoms

1) No water on demand from the front door dispenser

2) The icemaker is not making any ice.

I have checked that the icemaker is on.   I have done a self test on the icemaker and it goes through its "cycle".   I have replaced the water filter in the refrigerator.

Additional history is that as follows

I have owned the refrigerator (new) since 2008

Several years ago I had problems where the water inlet solenoid failed a couple of times pretty quickly (ie., failed twice in a two year span).  I diagnosed that my incoming water pressure was too high and realized there was not a regulator inside the house so I installed one.   The problem with the failing regulators stopped.

Over the last year or so, the output of the water from the front door dispenser has dropped, so that it was taking a very long time to fill a normal kitchen sized cup (30 seconds).   I have been ignoring that problem and just getting my water from the tap.

A month or two ago I noticed that the output of the freezer seemed to be "slowing down" (i.e., it didn't seem like it was producing as much ice as quickly as it had in the past.   I could have just been imagining this as it was in the NOV & DEC timeframe when we have more people in the house and use more ice, so maybe I was just imaging it).  Also, it seemed like it was making smaller cubes, even though I was not changing the size with the pushbutton (3 size) selector that is located on the icemaker.

Now, as of Friday there is NO flow from the water dispenser and no ice is being made by the icemaker.

Without doing any testing, I am assuming that the Solenoid has failed and will not open.   Is this a "normal" failure mode for the solenoid?   What other things should I look at.   While I am working & thinking about it, what about possibilities that caused the problem that I have been seeing for a while with low flow to the water dispenser?

Thank you for whatever information you can provide.

JS

First cause of low flow would be the water filter, next is low water pressure, then the inlet valve does have screen inside that can get clogged with deris.  You can check for 120 vac at inlet water valve when call for water. Then disconnect the outlet and check for water flow. If no flow and you have correct voltage - check incoming line for water flow and pressure. If you have water flow move to the next item in the water system, this is usually the water filter.  If needed move on until you find the blockage. Believe the secondary water valve is in the door under the ice maker area.

As suspected, the problem was the water inlet valve.  Apparently it had been going bad for a while and finally died completely.   You could actually see some corrosion coming out of some around some of the plastic seams, which surprised me.   Ordered a new one, received it, installed it, and I have my icemaker back working as well as good flow out of the front door water dispenser.

Thanks for the advice.
