Whirlpool WTW4816FW2 - New & grinding on agitation

Recommended Posts

New whirlpool washing machine and it is making this terrible plastic grinding sound during agitation. I figured out it was coming from the drum pulley and captured a video of it happening:

The actuator is working because when it switches to spin, the gear drops in and the tub spins fine.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

It looks/sounds like the teeth are stripped or not engaging somehow? weird that its new??

that's what I thought -- when it kicks into spin mode though and the actuator drops the gear down, the teeth engage perfectly and the drum spins.

It was a good deal scratch & dent from Lowes so this is not a returnable item, thats why I'm trying to figure it out vs. taking it back...
