Hello.  I've got a clicking sound coming from my refrigerator.  I'm not an appliance guy, just a guy who likes to fix things himself.  In the linked photo, is the white "thing", connected to the compressor, a starter, and the black "thing" attached to that a run capacitor?  The sound comes from one of these, and I've read that run capacitors often click when failing.  The refrigerator is 10 years old and was quite dusty when I opened it up.  Also, if I put my finger on the white thing, I can feel the click, though I can't say for sure from which of the two noted things it comes.  I'd appreciate any thoughts, please.  Thanks.

Compressor+  <-- If that image link doesn't work, please let me know how to upload a photo.  I've tried OneDrive, Google, the Gallery, Insert Image from URL, etc.

Post the model number buddy and someone may decide to help you out...

White thing is start relay and overload. It’s likely bad. I’ve never run across a bad capacitor.

Hi, guys.  Thank you for the input.  Apologies I did not include any model information.  The refrigerator is a subzero 736TC.  The model number on the compressor is EGX 70HLC, by Embraco, if that helps.  If you can guide me on the start relay replacement model number, then I will order one without pulling off the clicking one, to inspect.  Otherwise, if I've not provided enough information to know the the right start relay replacement, then I'll pull it off this afternoon to have a closer look.

Am I right in believing this is a very easy fix: pull off the old one, put in the new one?

Thanks for your expertise.

Shows different relay and overload depending on compressor neither of which seems to match what you listed?

I did indeed run into uncertainty trying to determine which start relay to use.  There are a number of them which seem to match my unit's specifications, but they always refer to Amana, GE, Frigidaire, never Sub-Zero.  I ended up calling Sub-Zero and ordered from them.  I feared that the parts would be essentially identical but over-priced, but in the end the pricing seemed to match what I was seeing on Amazon.  I'll post whether this fixes my issue.  I should have the part in about five days.  Thanks.

Perfect calling them would’ve been my next step too. Let us know. Good luck!

My issue is seemingly resolved after installation of the start relay and run capacitor that I ordered.  (Since the run capacitor was only an additional USD 11.00, I added it to the mix.  The total bill, with shipping, was something like USD 55.00)  The clicking is now gone.  I have no way to prove it, nor why it would be the case, but the refrigerator / freezer actually seems to run better overall.  Smoother perhaps, struggling less?  Thanks again for the input.
