Help with GE Electric Dryer issues...?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Been doing some work on my GE dryer recently. I compiled a brief history and timeline of the issues, what I’ve done so far, and where I’m at now. Any advice would be appreciated - I’m mainly looking for feedback as to which part/s might be bad and need replacing or (hopefully) maybe just some cleaning or oiling or something.

Original Issues (in order of discovery):
  • Buzzer would go off but dryer would continue to cycle
  • Clothes would sometimes take a long time to dry
  • Extremely loud, high pitched grinding / screeching noise

Replaced (in order):
  • Front Drum Bearing
  • Glides
  • Felt
  • Blower Wheel

Current Condition:
Loud screeching noise was finally fixed after replacing blower wheel. However, after 5-10 minutes of running the dryer, these issues were observed:

  • Drum spinning slower than usual
  • Not getting very hot inside, but getting hot on the outside
  • Smells hot / like burning

My girlfriend and I are kind of afraid to run the dryer any longer until we figure out what’s causing this, so I thought I’d ask here. Thanks in advance...

Lord only knows. Could be put back together wrong. It sounds like airflow problem.

remove vent at back and test it unhooked. See if there’s any improvement.
