GE Laundry Center model GUD27GSPM1DG lid lock problem

Hello,  help requested.  The washer on this laundry center has a lid lock/switch issue.  When you start a cycle, or more specifically, Rinse/Spin the water fills then you here the lid trying to lock,  Click, click click.  It does not lock and the cycle stops.  I took off the front panel and observed the mechanism.  It tries to lock but some kind of interference.  I used my finger to pull down on the white rotating actuator/lever.  It then locked and the cycle proceeding to rinse, spin, drain.  Also,  when I started a cycle I pressed down on the lid when the cycle started.  I suspected either the tongue (attached to the lid) might not be engaging the latch OR there might be an issue with the proximity magnet part of the switch assembly might be an issue.  Anyways, with pressure on the lid, again, the cycle proceeded to rinse/spin/drain.  Question: Is there a hack/MacGuyver solution to this without a new switch assembly?               If not...the I got part number WH44X10288 as the latch assembly.  Does this include the magnet part of the switch?  I cannot tell.  Would I need a new 'tongue'?  I am not sure of the proper name for this part.  Any help, much appreciated.

I am thinking about modifying the actuator (tongue) by opening up the square hole.  Would that work?

The cabinet on those can get bent out of shape when someone moves the unit by grabbing the rim of the washer opening.  Bend that part back down and it should start locking normally.

I think it must have been a geometry, bent metal issue.  I put in a new lid switch. Same problem.  I ended up to fixing it by applying some electrical tape to the rotating actuator within the the lid switch. It pushes/rotates the actuator just a little bit, but enough to get the lid to lock and the cycle to proceed toward completion. FIXED.
