GE FCM5DMCWH Chest freezer occasionaly buzzing / low alarm noise

Hi noticed this morning a low alarm noise coming from freezer FCM5DMCWH.   The sound didn't last long.   the Freezer is still plenty cold. I did notice alot of ice build up on the edges mostly top sides and back.  then i realized it isn't level (easy fix) but has been sitting in the same place for years.     I cleared off the ice that may have been interrrupting the lid seal (but it was still holding a good seal) .

when i unplugged it i did hear a little noise not loud and not an alarm..like a "running motor"  or something inside spinning.  it stopped after a short time.

I  one access panel off and noticed the access panel felt a bit warm..and the compressor was warm.

could the frost build up effect the performance  and trigger the alarm?  i have never heard that little alarm before.

could it be the relay ?

at this point i am going to defrost it a bit and give it a try and see if it repeats .. any suggestions would be great! thank you

I noticed when I plugged it back in and turned on  the compressor would only come on when the dial was set to the "coldest"  setting.   but seems to be going OK.   i replaced the thermostat a couple years ago with what i could find..and i have had to run it on the "coldest" sitting since then..but never had the alarm happen before.
