Samsung DV395ETPAWRA1 dryer starts and stops, something may have shorted out?

Trusty Samsung dryer smells like something burned, and I always use the delicate cycle, so it powers on as usual, starts spinning as usual and then abruptly stops after 3-5 seconds. Won’t continue the cycle of dry anything using ANY settings. No error codes or flashing lights to guide me…..HELP!?!

Does the countdown timer keep going? Let it sit for a while after stopping, without touching it, and see if it kicks back on on its own. If it does, you’re likely dealing with a faulty motor that’s tripping the overload. Once the temperature drops the overload resets and it’ll start running again.

Could also be the belt seizing up on the idler pulley. The idler pulleys on Samsung dryers fail all the time.

OK so do you recommend opening it up and check both? Is the motor seizing from lint or…..why does that happen?

Countdown timer doesn’t seem to do anything before it shuts down. I have never let it sit a while though to see what transpires…..

Just. He led in after about ten minutes. Turned on, ran for 5 seconds and stopped. Countdown timer is still at 34 min as when it started.

Are you running it on timed dry when testing?

Very hard to guess anything with the small amount of information. Can always check the pulley, won't hurt. If possible I'd remove the small panel where the vent hose connects, you can see the pulley clearly from there and it saves you from having to disassemble the whole thing. Can also try spinning the drum by hand and see if it's spins relatively easily. Kind of hard to know what it's supposed to feel like if you don't have anything to compare it to.

Do you have a multimeter?
