New LG Front Load Washer not completely draining the drum

I picked up a new lg front loader that was supposedly returned to the Home Depot because of a very small dent in the side.  The shipping bolts where in and all protective plastic still on the machine.  It was the only one I could take with me that day otherwise I had to wait 10 days for delivery so I went for it.

Brought it home and hooked up where my old LG front loader was.  I ran a test load and water came pouring out of the front filter area.  Someone had not tightened the filter (weird because why would someone have it open on a brand new unit?) oh well,   I tightened and did a couple of loads.  after the 3rd load my wife notice clothes at the rear of the drum were soaking wet and sure enough there was some water pooling in the rear of the drum.  Moving the drum around I could hear water sloshing around so I drained the water from the hose next to the filter and I would say about 1/2 gallon came out.  with this water in there the drum had some resistance to turning by hand, once I drained the water the empty drum turned much easier.

I'll mention that the drain had no problems prior to this new unit and I even tried attaching the drain line to a hose and let it flow out the basement door to make sure my house drain line wasn't the issue.  Is it normal to have that much water left in the drain lines?  Should I just return and get a new unit?

Thanks for any help
