Whirlpool bottom mount dual evap French door fridge

I have Whirlpool MFT2976AEB00 fridge. It’s had a lot of issues since purchase circa 2012 (probably should have gotten some work done under warranty, but hindsight…)

The current problem is that it’s not reaching the set temperature in either the fridge or freezer. The evaporator coils have frost on them when the condenser runs, but right now it doesn’t seem to be trying to cool. A repairman recently replaced the freezer thermistor. It went from not cooling the fridge/freezer any more than a final temp of 50 degrees F to cooling within 5 degrees F of the set points (34/-5). It has stopped trying to cool again a month later, AFTER the fridge had been open a long time troubleshooting the new ice maker.

Another issue, possible co-symptom. When the ice maker calls for water, the dual valve solenoid opens both the water dispenser and the ice maker fill valve. The ice maker is new, the previous one seemed to have a dead motor in it.

The water reservoir fill valve and the dual valve between the reservoir and ice maker/water dispenser have both been replaced in the last 5 years and confirmed dead by continuity test. The freezer has also had intermittent problems with the evaporator coils and fan icing up.

My final thought before bad compressor is bad control board. Am I on the right track?
