Vintage GE fridge freezer box swap

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Really hoping I can get a little help regarding a situation I have with a vintage GE refrigerator circa 1940's ND-10-something I think is the model number. My issue is that I have a large puncture hole on the side of the freezer box obviously rendering the fridge unusable. I have since located a donor unit but unfortunately the rest of the fridge does not seem usable. The fan is VERY tight and all wiring is quite brittle.

I would really like to save the original fridge and swap in the freezer evap box from the donor. There are two copper lines going to it, one larger one that I assume could easily be brazed but there is a much smaller one that looks like it comes from the (condensor?) but runs into the shelf part in the freezer box. The smaller line measures about .080" OD, how can that line be joined to be leak free?

Thank you for any help you all could provide. I really love this fridge and I am hoping to be able to repair it.

Aaron
