Kenmore 110.62802101 Dryer - auto moisture function not working

I posted a question about removing a foreign object from the dryer vent earlier today. I fixed that one but I was just informed that the moisture sensor function is not working. The dryer continues to run after clothes are dry and the position of the dial does not change. I went back and looked - all wires and connectors appear to be in place. I'm looking for help on where to start diagnostics and what may be the problem. Thanks.

I am uncertain which model dryer you are dealing with. Many newer dryers have moisture sensing bars, and there is a test procedure for each of these to determine if the sensing bar circuit is functioning properly. Many older dryers use a connection to one of the thermostats to move the timer in auto dry cycles. I would start with checking for a grounded heating element, then verify the moisture sensing circuit, particularly the thermostats and wiring.

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/ShowPartImage.aspx?forumimg=W10816105 pulled the wire off this sensor when you clean out the dryer shroud in back of dryer.

I went the easy route and replaced the moisture sensor - didnt fix it. Can you explain in more detail checking the thermostats and wiring? Thanks.

I'm curious if, and under what cause, anyone has had a moisture sensor in the drum fail and need replacement.  All of them that I've seen are a pair of simple metal bars that carry a low-voltage current fed from the control.  Are there some designs that have electronics integral to the bars that could fail, such as resistors or diodes?  Or would such electronics perhaps be in the wiring harness that connects to the bars and the harness is replaced, not the bars?

The only failures I have seen in the sensing circuit are (1) dirty sensing bars, (2) loose or corroded terminal connectors, and (3) wires left unplugged.
