KRMF606ESS01 KitchenAid ice box fan motor TEST

Hello, new guy here. I've been having a problem with the temp in the the ice bucket and in the ice maker are not being cold enough. I believe it is from slow air flow.  I ran the Service Test-36 (Ice Box Fan) I can hear the fan, but it doesn't run consistantly. It ramps up and then slow down (and repeats this cycle very quickly) I don't want to just order a new one unless I can test my existing fan out and see if infact is the problem (or maybe it is with a control module)  I pulled the ice maker compartment down and out of the fridge, I have gained access to the ice maker fan. it has 3 leads, red (power) blue (Vcc) and black (ground). I am unable to get it to run with 2 leads hooked up to a 12 volt wall adapter. I tried black - negative and red - positive. not sure what to do with the blue lead. I've been told that this is a 2 phase fan but I am unsure how to use the blue wire and test the fan.

The fan is a Delta (burshless) BFB1012HN, I have the schematics for the fridge and the fan, but they are in a pdf format and don't seem to be able to be uploaded here.

Also, I have found a similar fan on Amazon, but it has 4 leads and is much more powerful, 35.3W vs the original fan that is 9.6W.  I am wondering if I can use it, if a replacement is required.

Thank you ahead of time!
