Whirlpool Washer F6 E2 Error Code: WFW5620HW0

I have a three year old Whirlpool Front Load Washer WFW5620HW0. It initially showed a F6 E2 error code (HMI can't hear ACU). Washer was unplugged overnight and when plugged back in the user interface panel did not respond when buttons were pressed. It will enter service mode and will show the following scrambled LED output for the error code: 8F6, 8, 8E2, 8. Later when I entered Software Version Display it produced a variety of codes but after a minute the F6 E2 code was scrambled into the prior codes to now appear as: UF6, n--, nE2. Later, the error code F6 E1 displayed (ACU can't hear HMI). What is the purpose of Software Version Display? Is this scrambling an indication of the ACU gone bad? There is 120V power in and out of the RFI Filter. I did not see any connectors loose or unplugged. I was not able to do a complete Test #1: ACU Power Check but the service manual states that if the ACU service LED was blinking 0.5 sec on and 0.5 sec, "ACU is probably ok and the problem is elsewhere." The washer is currently blinking the 0.5 s on and off at the ACU. As for user interface panel, it passed it's test successfully in the service diagnostic mode when it lit up all buttons and properly darkened when the buttons were pressed again. The digital display properly read: 888. I have seen in other threads that someone else had the F6 E2 error code and user interface panel passed test in service diagnostic mode but it ended up being the user interface panel. My goal is to replace one electronic unit. If both units are recommended to be replaced, a new washer may be best approach. Thanks!

10. Service LED/DC Supply
The ACU is equipped with a status LED. This LED indicates the health of the ACU. After the ACU is plugged in, the LED will blink for 10 seconds, then it will become solidly lit. This LED indicates the functionality of the microcontroller and power supply:
 If the LED is not lit, there is not 5 V DC supply to the microcontroller. Replace the ACU.
 If the LED is not solidly lit after 10 seconds of blinking upon being powered up, the microcontroller is not responding. Replace the ACU.
 If the LED is solidly lit during washer operation, the ACU is probably OK and the problem is elsewhere.

Is the #10. Service LED/DC Supply from the service manual? The information I got was from the service manual W11169652A: if the ACU service LED was blinking 0.5 sec on and 0.5 sec, "ACU is probably ok and the problem is elsewhere." The washer is currently blinking the 0.5 s on and off at the ACU. 

Apparently, Whirlpool has sent out a service bulletin that almost 100% of the HMI's have tested ok and the ACU's have been the issue so I am planning on installing the ACU on Monday.

10. SERVICE LED/DC SUPPLY

The ACU is equipped with a status LED. This LED indicates the health of the ACU. After the ACU is plugged in, the LED will blink rapidly for a few seconds, then will blink slowly (0.5s on, 0.5s off). This LED indicates the functionality of the microcontroller and power supply:

● If the LED is not lit, there is not 5 volts DC supply to the microcontroller. Replace the ACU.

● If the LED is not blinking slowly within 30 seconds of being power up, the microcontroller is not responding. Replace the ACU.

● If the LED is blinking slowly (0.5s on, 0.5s off) during washer operation, the ACU is probably OK and the problem is elsewhere.

Had one of these washers acting like that. Replaced the acu and it worked ok for 2 months and quit again. Tried a control panel also. No change. Now they are on back order.
