Kenmore 80 Series washer model 110.27822790 issue with timer switch replacement

Hello, I replaced the timer switch because the washer was shutting off right before the rinse cycle, so in other words, to complete a cycle, I had to pull the knob to start and then come back after about 20 minutes, pull the knob again and it would finish the cycle with no issues.  I ordered a used timer switch from Ebay and installed this evening.  Ran a test load - the washer fills and agitates fine but now will not drain or spin.  Thinking that the replacement timer switch was bad, I reinstalled the original timer switch and the washer is now doing the exact same thing as it was with the replacement switch.  I've tried the reset trick by unplugging, plugging in, opening and closing the door 6 times but the washer keeps doing the same thing.  Inspected the wiring harness, looks fine, everything looks fine.  Please help!!!  Thanks, Mark

Update:  after more online research. I bypassed the door switch and now when I set it to spin, it makes a humming sound. Maybe the pump is clogged? That's what I'm going to check next but any advice is greatly appreciated...
