Samsung 4 Door Flex Fridge Leaking

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Samsung Flex Four Door refrigerator on Facebook marketplace. It’s a 2018 model, model code RF28K9070SG/AA. I was told the water and ice maker didn’t work when I purchased it, but I connected the water feed line in my kitchen and changed the filter (using a genuine Samsung filter) and both the ice maker and water worked. A week after installing the fridge, my wife heard water running from the behind it. There was water on our kitchen floor, and I rolled the fridge out and saw water leaking out from the bottom right of the rear, by the condenser tray. There are three drain tubes in the rear of the fridge, and water was running out of the rightmost tube (picture attached). I turned off the water at the line, and the leaking stopped. I turned the water back on, and it immediately started flowing back out of the drain tube again and overflowing the condenser tray. I believe that this is the drain tube for the ice maker, but I’m not totally sure. It seems to me like something is leaking/overfilling inside the fridge and excess water is running directly out of the drain tube, more than the condenser tray can hold.

There is no water condensing in any of the fridge/freezer compartments, filter compartment included, and nothing was leaking out of the other drain tubes. No leaks out of the water or ice maker, and the ice maker didn’t appear to be overfilled. The fridge sat off and upright for approximately a day after being transported, so from my understanding there shouldn’t have been any damage to the condenser. No apparent issues with cooling, and I have the flex zone of the unit set up to be at freezer temp.

I haven’t found anyone with a similar issue yet. Called Samsung’s help number and they suggested I call a plumber and then call them back if the plumber verifies that the water line is connected properly (believe it is, no leaks from the line).

If anyone can lend me a hand in diagnosing the issue I would appreciate it! I have some pictures but can’t get them to upload via my phone at the moment.

I believe that this is the drain tube for the ice maker,

This is a direct cool ice maker and it does have it own drain. Pull the ice bin and turn on the water to see if ice maker is overflowing.

Depending on it serial number it may take a kit to correct icemaker issues. Look up asc201706062002 on the web.

Thanks for the advice, I should have time to troubleshoot this weekend so I will report back on whether the ice maker is overflowing.

I tried to search for this number on google and it didn’t return any results. Are there any other keywords that could be tied to it?

Did some testing today. When I turned the water line back on, it took about 5 seconds before water started running freely out of the third drain tube as it did before. I removed the ice bucket and the ice maker didn’t have any water overflow in it. However, the ice maker was freezing over and ice wouldn’t have been able to fall down into the bucket due to the excess frost.

I pressed the “test” button on the side of the ice maker and that has started to help defrost the ice that is built up. I’m going to leave the ice bucket out for a day and see if it totally defrosts.

I’m wondering if the ice maker has totally frozen over and the water line is frozen as well, which is causing excess water to back up and run out of the drain tube instead of being used in the icemaker like it should be.

I searched the code you gave me and found the TSB for repairing/replacing the icemaker (even though my model # isn’t listed in the TSB), and also found replacement parts for my model #. I’ll do a little more research and hopefully try to defrost the icemaker and replace the part next weekend.

Appreciate the help! Let me know if you think I’m going off in the wrong direction.

That is an older version of the service bulletin, i prefer that one as it does not require a kit just the updated icemaker and heat clips. There is a newer drain that has a larger internal diameter da97-19898a. Depending on when your was manufactured some mods may have been factory done.

8th and 9th digit of the SN are K and 8, so I would assume this falls into the 12/2018 range and would need the IM SVC kit. Will report back once I’ve got the kit, which might not be for a little while as car’s radiator replacement is taking priority this weekend.
