The link is for a front loader - are you working on a 417 stack?

Yep, Pegi posted the link for the changing the boot on a Frikkidaire front loader.

Mad One, aren't the 417 Kenmore stacks are the same thing as the Frikkidaire frontloaders?

No Samurai, not always.

Kenmore uses the Frigidaire top loader machine for the top loader stack unit, the dryer is intigrated into the washer, not removable like the front loader.

But, there is no boot seal in the Frigidaire top loader. Maybe tperalta means the main tub seal and bearing job.

yes mr. Burk you are right,we meanthe bearingand tubseal on the stack.Told you we don't work on em that much. We have the dryer fix for them but the washers are a mystery.

Only time I ever did this job, turned out the tub with the bearing pre-installed was half the price of the bearing on its own!

We ordered the bearing, but couldn't get it in, seemed as though it would break the tub in the process. We ordered the tub, and it came with the bearing already installed. I'd certainly check that out - a quick look at the $ear$ site shows the tub and bearing for a typical stack at about half the price of the bearing alone. I don't think there's any variation between the various models.

I'm pretty sure MadMac is correct in what he states above about them all being the same, Unless it's a real old model, say over 10-15 years ago they used a different bearing, (large rubber housing a sleave bearing that is pressed into the tub). All the newer style just use the bronze sleave bearing that slides into the plastic tub and is retained by two screws.

The bigger problem you may have, and you really won't know this until you tear the whole machine down is that the other bearing surface is the transmission shaft that attaches to the spin basket. If the seal has been leaking for a long time and the center sleave bearing is really bad then the chrome bearing plating on the transmission shaft will also be worn into. THAT MEANS BADDDDDD NEWWWWSSSSS - new transmission.

I remember the old one with the rubber housing. Friggidaire had an installation tool for that which was like a coffee can. The newer ones are similar to the GE.
