Maytag LDG712 dryer - does not stop on timed dry

Recommended Posts

On our Maytag LDG712 dryer, we are using the timed dry since the electronic dry sensor doesn't appear to be working and the part is no longer available.  On the timed dry, if we set it for 10 minutes, the timer dial moves down to the zero mark (up on top), but the dryer does not stop.  I replaced the timer with a refurbished one, but the same issue occurs.  Is there another part that might be failing that the timer controls to shut off the dryer?

Before this failure mode, the timed dry was working but when it was about to be done, a banging noise occurred a few times.  It sounded like it was coming from the timer mechanism, so I was guessing the timer had failed.

Any thoughts on this
