Samsung refrigerator clicks, pops, and truns off.

Hi all, and happy holidays. The title says it all. The refrigerator makes clicking and cracking noises all night then sometimes shuts off. Usually, when I unplug for a while, it comes back. Then within some time, it starts all over again. I have included some model information. Thanks

When you say shuts off is that the compressor and fans or does the whole refrig stop work? Where is the noise coming from in the refrig?

Hi Vance R, I think the sound is coming from the back. I believe it is the compressor and fans. I don't think that the whole refrigerator shuts down because the lights and panel stay on. However, it is pretty noise-less, and things start to get warmer. Thanks for the reply

Crackling sound to me could be something shorting. Without proper grounding the lights will stay on because it  May not be tripping the circuit breaker.  In addition, the crackling sound could be the compressor shorting and then opening up on internal overload. Too many  what if’s  right now. Only thing to do is open up the back plug it in without touching the unit in case it’s not properly grounded and try and localize the sound. That will at least give you a generalized area of where the problem could be. It could also be a bad relay on the control board with  bad contacts or a burnt solder joint . Like I said, too many what if’s right now

I am watching some YouTube videos on the relay. From what is being described, I think it could be that. If not too expensive I want to replace it.

Thanks

Do the noises stop when you open the door?

there was a service bulletin about evaporator noises and securing the evaporator and it’s backing plate.  Also, I am curious about ice buildup on the evaporator fan.  Can you see ice or frost around the back panel (inside the freezer compartment?)

I am going to check if the noise stops when I open the door. It is not doing it now. It has just been running since the last post on May 26, 2022. As of Today May 1, 2024, It stopped working two days ago and I had to unplug it and plug it back in. Since then it has run uninterrupted. However, it made the noises I talked about sometimes.  I hope that suggests something could be going on. Thanks
