I have a 1977 Maytag DG308 gas dryer. I am replacing the original motor and experiencing a little confusion mapping old wire colors to the new motor's terminal block.

The wires I have are red, black, yellow and white. There is no gray wire. Additionally, the white wire is joined at the connector with a blue wire jumper. On the old motor the white/blue wire pair was connected to the GY terminal and the other end of the blue jumper was connected to the BU terminal.

The new Maytag/Whirlpool motor has a terminal block with pins labeled 268439751. My mappings are red to T5. black to T2, yellow to T6. I'm unsure what to do with the white wire and the blue jumper.

The instructions state there should be a blue wire (sometimes accompanied with a white wire) and that it should be connected to T1.  Except I have a white wire with a blue jumper. Same colors, just a slightly different implementation.

Does my white wire connect to T1 and I cut off the other end of the blue jumper?

Also, the instructions state the gray wire connects to the Thermal Protector termain. I have no gray wire. This has me concerned.

I enjoy colored lights during the holiday season as much as the next man. I prefer them on my xmas tree, not on a fire truck in front of my house.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a service manual for my unit. Sadly I don't know how to read a schematic.

My instruction sheet is the same pictured at the end of the video. The instructions get me close.  My issue with what to do with the white wire (and lack of any connection to the thermal protector) remain.

Here is an image of the old motor switch. Red wire to RD. White & blue wire pair to GY and then blue wire jumpers from GY to BU.

Here is the wiring diagram from the service manual. I've been staring at it for a while. It shows the white wire going to overload protector and then blue jumpering from overload protector to run.

On the new motor, does white connect to thermal protector and then blue jumpers from thermal protector to T1?

For the motor picture would you backup and get more of the wiring. Kinda like the area of the one i posted.

Thanks for the pictures, realized i asked incorrectly. Need pictures of the motor circuit from your service manual. Would prefer the completed diagram similar to the one i posted.

I cannot post the full schematic because I've reached my limit for disk space. I'm unable to determine how to delete old images to free up disk space. Nor do I see a PM capability here. How about by email?

Seem i can't send you a PM.  Post the manual number, i'll track it down. Would like to see complete diagram to confirm my thinking of how to hook it up. Since you have a gas dryer there is no L2 leg. This explanation is using the small picture of your wiring diagram.

I was thinking the same - white/blue combo went to gray (thermal protector) and other end of blue went to T1 but was unsure. I'll hold off on installation until until you can find the manual.

My manual title is "Maytag Automatic Dryer Service Manual, Covering "08"-"10"-"12" Models". In the upper right corner of the cover page is the number 56284. In the lower right corner in small font is Form 563VD.

If you cannot find it let me know and I'll post my email address.  Email me and I'll send you both diagrams (electrical schematic & ladder diagram).
