Whirlpool Double Oven GBD307PRS01 Troubleshooting Help Needed -- Control Board vs Transformer

Recommended Posts

Greetings! I just found this site and thought it might be a good resource for an avid DIYer needing some advice.

I have a Whirlpool Double Oven (Model GBD307PRS01) that was working fine until today. The control panel is blank. Any touch of the keypad generates a "beep" when pressed. The oven light key press will turn the light off/on. An attempt to actually start either oven results in a beep-beep beep-beep-beep and nothing happens.

Power coming into the unit is good. I've checked both the the Oven Temperature Thermal Fuse and the Control Panel Thermal Fuse and I have continuity in both. Google search results suggest to replace the control board...which for this board looks like it's a send out for repair type job.

But, before doing that I checked the Control Power Transformer. According to the tech sheet, the primary wiring on the transformer should read between 75 and 95 ohms. I'm only getting 59 ohms -- both at the control panel and also on the transformer terminals. Would that difference be enough to indicate that the transformer could be the issue? Or, is it more likely than not the control board?

If it's most likely the control board, does anyone have experience with the control board repair kits I see advertised? Would you recommend a control board repair kit vs sending the board off?

Thanks so much for any thoughts you may have!

Best regards for the new year!

What do you expect to repair on the control board?

What voltage is the transformer putting out on the secondary side?  Voltage would be a much better diagnostic measurement.  The problem with the transformers is that they are normally too hard to measure live without opening the entire cabinet (which means pulling the oven completely out).  If you don't feel safe measuring live voltage, then do not.

This is kill you dead voltage inside a live wall oven.

That being said:

I rarely replaced any transformer.  Ever.
Measure the secondary voltage and compare it to the tech sheet.  You should have some lower voltage like 12-18 volts.

It sounds like you are on the right track.  You say that the oven light works inside when you use the oven light button.  The switch membrane and its ribbon cable sound okay then.

I have never repaired a board.  I either replace it or send it for repair.  Your board is probably unavailable.  In that situation I use fixyourboard.com for repairs and they have a warranty.

Take a picture of the board so that you can reconnect it.

Thank you! I was able to test the primary and secondary voltage on the transformer and it was 120 & 24.

Looks like its time to send off the board. Thanks for the recommendation for fixyourboard.com!
