Kenmore 10653762202 freezing food

I only need this refrigerator to work for a few months. It is set at the lowest but the refrigerator is about 28F.
Can I use an external temperature control to maintain proper temp? I have this from cheesemaking. I am just not sure at what temp it should be and what the differential should be. Also where to place the probe.

This side by side fridge has a damper to control air flow.  The evaporator in the freezer side cools the air.  The air is ducted to the fresh side to maintain 40 degrees or less.  There is the electronic control, a temperature sensor, and the damper.

If you just want a quick fix to a fresh food side that it too cold, then you could restrict the air flow from the freezer side to the fresh food side.  This is what the damper does mechanically.  Some component between the three isn't working.

In the top left of the fresh food side of the fridge will be a sliding cover and a duct that is allowing too much freezer air into the fresh side.
