Bosch 300 SHE53TF5UC dishwasher E23 code cleared with new pump, still getting E25 and cycle wont start.

Hi Folks,

We have a Bosch 300 series dishwasher, model SHE53TF5UC, I believe was manufactured in 2016. The unit stopped working with an error code E23; after inspection (I removed the pump and disassembled it) I found the water ejection pump had internal water damage. I replaced the pump with a new open box OEM pump, assumed to be good but, it could be faulty.

With the replacement pump installed, when I turn the dishwasher ON and select a cycle, the ejection pump will run very briefly, maybe a second or two, several times. It doesn't move much water during this brief pump cycling. I have tried holding the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds forcing a reset which should also evacuate all the water from the sump; the pump again only gives a few short bursts but not enough to move any significant amount of water. Eventually, within about 10 minutes or so the E25 error code comes on and the sump is still full of water.

Note that I have this dishwasher in my shop, un-installed for clear access to service it; and it is connected to water and power. I have thoroughly cleaned the sump and checked the ejection/drain pipes to ensure they are clear.  checked the pump from the inside of the dishwasher to make sure there are not obstructions and it turns freely.

From the searching I have done, I have found the following information on the E25 code "An E25 error code indicates the drain pump is blocked or the drain pump cover is loose or missing." I am quite certain the pump is not blocked although I do not know what the "drain pump cover" is or how to determine if it is loose. I have done a visual inspection of the area and all the bits and pieces appear to be present and fastened securely.

The original code of E23 seemed accurate when I opened up the pump and found the corrosion. Now I am wondering if this "New open box" pump possibly is not functioning correction, causing a the different yet somewhat related E25 code.

The left side of the dishwasher has an opaque plastic junction box which the drain passes through, maybe like a p-trap? At the very top of this box, the passage has a arched-path which appears to be soiled; it doesn't look fully blocked but I figured I would mention this. Also note that I removed the drain pipe from this box to allow it to eject directly for testing which made no difference.

Any suggestions are appreciated and as always I will be sure to follow up with any progress made toward resolving this.

Additional information related to the replacement pump I used:

The part number I used for the drain pump is 00620774. From what I can tell, that should be the correct part for this SHE53T5FUC dishwasher. I recall doing an impedance test on the old failed pump and comparing to this new one, the old one was quite high and while I don't recall exactly what this replacement was, I think it was in the 100 ohm range, at least it was less than 200. I can re-check if anyone knows closer to what the resistance should be for the 620774 drain pump.

One thing I notice is that impeller on the original pump was more  "integrated" with a backing plate behind the blades where as the replacement pump does not have this backing plate, the blades are free.

Original style pump impeller:

I might be mistaken, this could be a 500 series rather than 300 series dishwasher. Sorry if I was mistaken, I am not authorized to edit the title or prior posts of this thread.

I filled the basin with clear water today, then using a shop vacuum, pulled the water through the drain pipes, there did not seem to be any resistance. I also pulled the drain pipe from the pump housing and removed the pump then pushed a zip tie through the backflow to ensure it was clear, and it was.

I also re-tested the replacement pump, it was 75 ohms between the center pin and either of the outer pins, and also 75 ohms between the two outer pins. I rotated a few times and each position I checked, it remained 75 ohms.

Out of curiosity, I pulled the turbidity meter and tested the resistance which was very high, around a meg or so. I guess being an optical diode circuit or whatever it is, maybe that is normal? I couldn't find any test information on this.

I still have an E25 and the dishwasher does not drain. I am considering buying another pump although this one was un-used "new open box" and 75 ohms seems correct.

I definitely do not have blockage, the pump spins freely when installed and the pipes are clear. But still next to no drain water movement.

Here is a picture of the original pump next to the replacement

A drain cover is designed to create pressure for proper draining .

00611321 part number

it's located inside the sump usually under the filter. Either way if it can't create pressure it's not gonna drain properly . Using your shop vacuum you were creating pressure . Check and see if it came loose or off .. there's plenty of videos on Google showing how to access it . Good luck !!

Drain pump cover is little piece of plastic, and needs to be snapped in strong.  If you snap it in and it pops off, you may have to order a new cover with fresh edges

SOLUTION:

Either the first pump I purchased was defective, or these two pumps are not cross-compatible (I suspect these two pumps although almost identical with exception of the impeller, are not compatible electrically). I had originally purchased a model 00620774 pump for my SHE53T5FUC/09 bosch dishwasher which did not work (as mentioned above). After noticing the impeller looked different I searched for other bosch dishwasher pumps and found model 00631200 which had the same impeller as my original pump. After installing the 00631200 the dishwasher started up and operated normal.

In conclusion, I don't know if the first "new open box" pump was failed (it ohm tested at 75 ohms) or if these two pumps are not electrically compatible. I would suggest buying a model 00631200  if you have a SHE53T5FUC/09 bosch dishwasher like me.

Glad to here you got it fixed. I've gotten a few parts that were bad out of the box or the substrate wasn't up to par .

That is good to know for anyone else who may show up here with a similar pump issue. Initially, I only new my machine was a SHE53TF5UC and didn't know the "/09" which may have introduced some difficulty in my part searching.

The machine is still working great, we are very happy.
