GE Potscrubber GSD940-L-02 - keep blowing GFI (not circuit breaker)

Very amateur DIY'er, replaced small pump drain seal, no more leaking - since took awhile to get part, and DW door was closed, got some mold.  Having problems with water inlet, waiting on part - read online I could manually fill dishwasher by pouring water into DW after it was entering its fill cycle - when I did this before, fried GFI - I though probably because of small water leak I fixed. Tried this again, after pouring in about half a bucket of hot water, GFI blew - the next day the GFI would reset properly.  Why is this blowing the GFI?  There may have been a very small amount of water that exited out the front door and dripped on floor, close to the water inlet valve, but not much - The Calrod element is working correctly -

Is it tripping right away, or after the cycles underway?

If it trips before cycle likely the element has a crack. But might not show up unless it was with a megaohm meter. That might test the insulation on the element but it may require filling dw by hand again. If nothing tests shorted with a megger, the gfi might be bad. Before replacement wire up a new gfi on a cord and plug it in direct. If a new one goes out the dw has the trouble somewhere. If it dosnt rnr the gfi.

had the GFI replaced once - figured it was due to a small leak, I replaced the tiny pump inlet seal - this time I again filled the dishwasher manually by pouring warm water directly into DW after it should have started to fill - when the water reached about the bottom of the calrod element it again blew the GFI.  This time, it reset ok after it dried for a day - sounds like maybe there is a crack that is not visible from above - on the large underside part of the element - ? Element heats well, GFI never pops during normal DW usage.  Waiting for water inlet valve to arrive in a few days to replace that -
