The fridge is cooler than the freezer but neither side is sufficient.

Checked the defrost thermostat on the freezer evaporator and it’s fine.

It has two evaporators but I’m not familiar with how to diagnose this type of fridge or if it’s worth fixing.

unit is about 5 years old.

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

appliance stores are saying months before they have more stock. ☹️

Start with is the condenser clean? Condenser fan running? Evaporator fans running? Next would be any frost or ice on either evaporators? Frost pattern of the evaporators if all else is good?

Posted

Add is the compressor running to the above list.

Compressor and coils are clean, all fans are running.   No frost on the freezer evaporator.  Condensation on the fridge side.  Freezer is no cooler than 15 Celsius

Could do step 4 of diagnostic test to check to see if 3-way valve is changing evaps. Last check before going into the system would be amp draw of the compressor.

Yes, looking like a sealed system issue. Compressor and fans running, no frost on either evaporator, probably little to no heat from the condenser. Check to see if there is a sealed system warranty on the refrigerator.

Ok. Not likely after 5 years.  Is it worth diagnosis if it’s not under warranty?

May want to double check your owners manual some whirlpool have 6 to 10 warranty on the  parts of the sealed system. The cost would just be the labor, still expensive but would possibly be doable compared to a new refrigerator.
