KRFC704FSS01 - Fridge warm, freezer fine

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone...

Been having this issue since yesterday where the fridge fails to stay cool.  The freezer seems fine with the food still frozen.  I noticed that the RC fan was not running, so I put the fridge into diagnostic mode #57 (RC fan test) and it runs fine.  Later today it actually started running the RC fan and the fridge started to get cooler, but that didn't last that too long.  There was initially ice buildup under the deli drawer and around the water filter (which impeded the water flow from the water dispenser), but that has been cleared up and the water flows fine from the dispenser now.

Here are the results from some tests run.  Keep in mind the temperature results are in celcius...

01: 5  02: -17  03: 19  04: -33  05: 3  08: 34  12: 21   14: -2  16: -7  17: OP  18: -24

#17 shows OP which according to the service tech sheet is the Freezer IM Tray Thermistor.

Where is the Freezer IM Tray Thermistor in this fridge?

How can I determine if the issue is with the thermistor of the main control board?

Are there other tests I should run in diagnostics?

Thanks

Check the refrigerator evaporator for ice build up blocking the fan.

Think this is the thermistor in the icemaker.

Measure the resistance of the thermistor at the board and at the icemaker and compare.

What does the RC evaporator coil look like? Frost? Ice buildup? Totally clean?

Any guidance on how I can access the thermistor in the icemaker?

Do I access the the RC evaporator behind the drawers?  I do see ice build up below the deli drawer and the back.

Yes, may be behind a back panel in your fridge.

One thing that happened as well when the problem first occurred (and shows up intemittently) is on the side control panel of the left fridge door, it shows "Extend-Freeze" illuminated.  According to the user guide if I recall correctly it turns on when you set the freezer to the coldest temperature, and should turn off when you adjust it to a warmer temperature.  What I experienced is the "Extend-Freeze" would stay on regardless of me changing the freezer temperature.  Currently it is not in this state, but any ideas what would cause this to happen?

Yes, need to remove the drawer assembly to remove the evaporator cover.
