GE side by side fridge/freezer - TPH21PBSMBB temp. controls for Fresh Food and Freezer jammed

My dad's freezer was totally iced up.   It's an old GE - TPH21PBSMBB. I defrosted it and replaced the defrost timer (#257) (unnecessarily?) and now I can't put it back together. :( #419 was very difficult to remove, and once I finally got it off, I think #443 left and right got out of alignment on the gears? and now they won't slide to adjust the temp of the freezer and fridge. It's very hard to see up there, and I don't want to remove #426 because it's glued? to the side. Any diagrams I can look at? or video?
I also think there's a leak in the ice maker assembly, but I think I just need to watch it for a while, until I see the leak. Not sure... but it's holding temp, as is the fridge. And since I've raised the arm to turn off the ice maker, it hasn't iced over again.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
