Returning guest presenter Aaron Wilson is back for another exciting discussion. This time, we'll be talking about...
The Science of CYA: How to Keep the Customer Safe, Document Your Work, and Not Get Sued
We take on a lot of liability as appliance repair techs, and that can get us into sticky situations whether we've done anything wrong or not. Aaron will be teaching us all about how to navigate this side of the trade.
We'll start by going over a tragic, real-world case study where a sloppy installation had lethal results, analyzing exactly how the installer's negligence caused this. From there, our scope will expand to what kind of safety precautions we should implement in our own work, both for the customer's sake and for our own.
But even if you do everything perfectly, there's still the famous "technician witch hunt." Well, we'll also talk about how to deal with that by thoroughly documenting your work and putting yourself beyond legal reproach.
A little about our guest, Aaron Wilson:
Aaron has been in the appliance repair trade for about 15 years, starting out by doing installations before moving on to bigger and better things. He worked for C&W Services as a Sub-Zero authorized servicer for a time and thereafter joined Mr. Appliance of Highland Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for years as the lead technician and field service manager. These days, he's making sure that all the appliances of everyone's favorite fried chicken place are in tip-top shape as the Quality and Performance Consultant for the southwest branch of Chick-fil-A. In addition, he has taught many classes on refrigeration repair and advanced diagnostics, during which time he also developed training material for the soft skills side of things, which he is delighted to share with you. On top of all that he's a certified graduate of the Master Samurai Tech Academy, so he knows his stuff!

I am having some trouble repairing a customer's Frigidaire oven display board. (M: CPEF3077QFA)

The old board intermittenly stops functioning properly so I am going to change it out for a new board. However when I change the new board in it fails to light up. It makes noises and and you can make some inputs, but it fails to light up. The first time I had this I assumed I had a bad board and ordered a new part, but since this has happened twice I doubt I received two bad boards in a row. I am certain I am wiring it correctly as both boards have the same layout for the wires.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? Do I need to change the control board at the same time? Is there a trick to this I don't know? Any advice is welcome.

The part number for the old board is (ELUH020) and the part number for the new board is (ELUH120).

How many boards did you go through? I have 2 new ones & I am having the same issue with the exact same model stove. Thanks.

Is main board supplying proper power to display board? You never talk about testing…

Any updates for this issue? I'm having the same thing here.

Model : CPEF3077QFG

Orig UI : 808751513

Replacement (new) UI : 808751525

Customer states intermittent F16 error although I have not observed the error myself as it is always working when I arrive.

Ordered and went to replace UI and it will not display anything when power is applied. I put old UI in and it works as it should.

When new UI is installed : I apply power, no display, no beeps. when I push the clock button, I get 3 fast higher pitched beeps. nothing else

When I reinstall old UI : I apply power, display comes on and immediately 3 medium pitch, medium speed beeps. At this point I can set the clock and everything is fine.

I went back and forth between the old and new UI and this was the case each time, so I'm getting power to the UI and have no reason to suspect any other issues to cause the new UI from not turning on the display.

Only thing I can think of would be a software issue where new UI not talking to the old main PCB, but no other info out there to suggest that both need to be replaced at the same time.  Hoping that someone may have some more insight so I don't have to try and sell a new main PCB without knowing for sure.
