GE fridge model GSL25JFTA BS takes 2 days to start cooling after power outage

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Recently, every time I have a power outage, it takes about 2 days for the fridge to start cooling. When the power is back, the lights inside the fridge are working. The Control Panel is dead, no lights. There are no any noise from the fridge. After about two days it starts cooling by itself.

What parts do i need to change? Could it be a Start capacitor and maybe a start relay?

Thank you

There isn’t a clear answer to this question. You need to inspect the unit.  Unplug it. Take the machine room panel cover off. Inspect the compressor, the wiring harness, and the starting components. Look at the main board. Are there any burn marks? Look at the harnesses. Depending on the age of the house etc. Some fridges are destroyed after lighting storms. Some survive. But without visual inspection and some metering we can just say change this or that. By the way the capacitor isn’t apart of the start circuit. The compressor will start without the run capacitor. Its not until the unit is started does the capacitor help stabilize/filter/clean voltage.

Thank you so much. I will do that and report

the visual inspection of the control board did not reveal any issues, All looked perfect. I replaced the control board anyway and that fixed the issue.
