McClary Washer 1970s YWG1118W1291 Intermittently Not Agitating Or Spinning

Recommended Posts

This old workhorse is nearing 50 years old! The agitator jiggles ever so slightly, and you can hear the motor buzz for 5 seconds or so, until the overdraw protection cuts out. After a few minutes the cutout resets but the motor usually doesn't resume it's intended job.

Out of the blue it starts to agitate/spin perfectly strong and healthy.

I'm thinking that motor has a bad winding and it occasionally works past a bad bar on the commutator? The buzzing might likely be the motor arching out which explains the overdraw cutout after 5 seconds.

I am going to try to find a motor, I think.

I suppose it could be a faulty startup capacitor or mechanism on the motor? Any ideas?

Not much information on these washers seem they went out of business in the late 70's.

Thanks

Must be because they were too repairable. 50 years of service.
