Whirlpool dishwasher WDT730PAHZ0 low heat

I'm having trouble diagnosing a problem with my dishwasher...  It seems like the heating element is not getting hot enough.  After the drying cycle, there is no plume of steam when the door opens.  Additionally, the amp draw during the heated drying cycle is only 3.1.  This seems low to me, but I know little to nothing about appliances.

Notes:

  • old heating element replaced because of no continuity
  • still getting 7-1 error code
  • new heat element ~ 38 ohms (a little higher than spec in thech manual, but should be OK??)
  • resistance in thermistor circut for low temp = 52.7 kiloohms @ 70 degree room temp (spec is 46KO - 52KO @ 77 degrees)
  • don't know of a good way to test resistance in thermistor circut at high temp

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the new heating element is out of spec, that would be my first look.

As for the low limit, You could get a hair dryer on it and should be able to heat it up and watch the resistance go lower. You'll want to check thermistors at two different temps.

That's how I would proceed.

EDIT: Have you tried clearing the code first?

Element at 38 ohms

voltage 120

According to ohms law amperage would be exactly 3.1.
