GE French Door GNE29GNEHSS - Freezer Working Fridge at 65 Degrees

Recommended Posts

It has been a while since I posted and you helped me! Thanks so much!

I have a GNE29 SS GE French Door fridge, 6 years old, that all of sudden stopped cooling in fridge. No power outage, reason for it. Freezer is overcooled, my Taylor pro thermometer reads below 0 degrees F.

I also feel cool air in the lower deli drawer - the one that runs full width of fridge interior - and items in there are cold.

At one point, very bizarre, unit seemed to make more noise and temp went down to 44!!! Then back to a slow climb to 65.

This has been over a period of 4 days, we continue to use the freezer. I know it could be multiple issues with fridges across brands - thermistor, defrost / evaporator fans, etc. BUT IS ONE PROBLEM MORE COMMON OR PREVALENT WITH THESE GEs???? Have my go to guy coming out but access to back may be an issue our builder configured kitchen with island blocking getting fridge out!

ANY HELP would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tom O.

BINGO...my appliance guy says it IS the evaporator fan. BUT he also says for this model and age 6 years old it needs a firmware upgrade. Also a moisture kit. GE OEM parts available and he's sure he can get I question whether this is OVERKILL or it just needs a fan ($50 max). His total solution is pricey but of course far far less than a new fridge (let alone the hassle...)

I don't know details of what his test of the fan assembly showed when he accessed it thru the fridge interior rear wall.....what do you think?

I honestly don't know but my tech came in and did a m test on the Family Dollar behind the back wall and said it was not running and it was defective

So much for voice text I meant that he did a meter test and  fan motor had a negative read

I don't think the new fans require an update.
